New Kilarney Mayor supports sports and leisure complex

The new Mayor of Killarney Fianna Fail’s Tom Doherty has come out in support of the controversial sports and leisure centre project. At the beginning of the month Cllrs agreed to put the project back out to tender after all tenders received so far came in well over budget. The design team is now in the process of re-evaluating the project in the hope of cutting costs. Last night 37 year old cllr Doherty was elected Mayor at the Council’s agm by 5 to 4 while Fine Gael`s Shelia Casey was chosen as Deputy Mayor. Speaking after his election the new mayor said there is confusion around the town about what exactly the leisure centre project will entail.
