Kilcummin National School has been granted an extra mainstream classroom under the Additional Accommodation Scheme.
The funding from the Department for Education and Skills will allow for a new wheelchair accessible classroom to be built in the school.
Welcoming the news, Seanad Leas Cathaoirleach, Paul Coghlan said that it is important for teachers and pupils alike that the works under this Scheme are carried out during the summer months to ensure minimal disruption to school life.
He added that the new classroom will be of great benefit to the school.
The news has been welcomed by Minister of State, Brendan Griffin, and by independent TDs, Michael and Danny Healy-Rae.
