New by law proposed by Tralee Councillor

Councillors in Tralee have been warned against introducing too many by laws that are unenforceable. A proposal by Miriam Mc Gillycuddy to introduce a by law to prevent youths from kicking football against the gable wall of a house received widespread support. Cllr Mc Gillycuddy claimed youths are intimidating residents in some estates by constantly kicking ball against the gable wall of the house. But Cllr Cathal Foley said there are many laws in place already that are not enforced and another by law is unreasonable. He said some estates have no green area and it is unfair to penalise youths for this.Town Clerk Mike Scannell agreed it would be difficult to pass and enforce a bye law on this issue. He warned against making too many rules and said the only solution is to work with community groups towards establishing greater respect. Cllr Mc Gillycuddy said she will monitor the situation in the coming months.
