Net gain of only ten gardaí in Kerry since restrictions were lifted in 2014

There has been a net gain of only ten gardaí in Kerry since restrictions were lifted in 2014.

As a result of the recession, towards the end of the last decade a moratorium was placed on garda recruitment nationwide.

However, the restriction was lifted in January 2014.

Following a Freedom of Information Act request, An Garda Siochana revealed there were 37 members recruited to the Kerry Garda Division since the restrictions were lifted.

No recruitment took place in 2014 and 2016; nine were taken on in 2015; 17 in 2017 and eleven last year.

However, there have been retirements every year since 2014, with the highest total occurring in 2014, when eight retired.

In total, 27 gardaí retired in the Kerry Garda Division over the past five years.
