Nearly 90 jobs are to be cut in Killarney, with a further 128 under threat

Nearly 90 jobs are to be cut in Killarney, with a further 128 under threat.

Liebherr Container Cranes Ltd, which is based in Fossa, announced that 27 staff will be laid off later this month, with up to 60 to follow in July.

The company, which was established in Killarney in 1958, employs over 800 staff at its base in Fossa.

SIPTU was informed by management of the job cuts in recent days.

27 workers are to lose their jobs later this month, with up to 60 being let go in July.

However, a further 128 jobs are under threat in August; this could bring the total number of job losses to 215, according to SIPTU.

SIPTU representatives will meet with management on June 26th, to discuss measures to reduce the number of potential job losses and to minimise the impact on those affected.

SIPTU Organiser Joe Kelly says members are shocked and disappointed by the extent of potential job losses.

He adds it’s a severe blow to the local community in Killarney and surrounding areas.
