Nearly 8,000 people in Kerry receive either Jobseeker’s Benefit or Allowance.
The information was revealed by Minister of State for Tourism and Sport, Brendan Griffin, who was commenting on the recent increase in payments as a result of Budget 2019.
The new rates came into effect in March.
Junior Minister Brendan Griffin says Budget 2019 included €362 million in additional social welfare expenditure, bringing the total social welfare spend to €20.5 billion for the year.
He says these increases will benefit nearly 35,000 (34,987) people in Kerry.
5,567 people in the county receive Jobseeker’s Allowance, while 2,276 collect Jobseeker’s Benefit.
Just under 460 people receive Farm Assist.
There are a total of 21,004 people receiving a pension in the county, while 3,122 people receive either Carer’s Allowance or Carer’s Benefit.
