National Treatment Purchase Fund Scheme treat 31 cases from KGH

There were 31 cases carried out under the National Treatment Purchase Fund Scheme for Kerry General Hospital during the first six months of this year. This accounts for 16% of the total figure for the Southern Area of the Health Service Executive. The National Treatment Purchase Fund allows patients who have spent a long time on public hospital waiting lists to secure treatment in private hospitals and facilities. South Kerry TD for Labour, Breda Moynihan Cronin believes the total figures for the Kerry and Cork areas are down on the January to July figure for 2004.189 cases in all were treated under the scheme during the same period this year and of that total, 31 were from Kerry General Hospital. Deputy Moynihan Cronin is urging the Minister for Health to raise awareness of the National Treatment Purchase Fund to ensure patients on public waiting lists are fully informed and encouraged to apply for the treatment.
