Killarney teenager Ian O’Connell has won an individual award in the 2019 National Garda Youth Achievement Awards.
Ian was paralysed from the shoulders down in a bike accident in Killarney National Park in 2017.
He was the overall winner of the Kerry Garda Division Youth Awards and was presented with the national title at an awards ceremony in Portlaoise.
Ian was nominated by John Doona of Arbutus Grove in Killarney for his bravery, positivity, willpower and mental strength in the face of seemingly insurmountable odds.
Ian, who has his own blog, has 42,000 followers on Instagram and uses social media to support young people and their families.
The judging panel said they were truly impressed with Ian’s attitude to life in the face of adversity.
