N Kerry Shannon Development companies employ 2,000 people in 2004

Shannon Development backed companies in North Kerry employed over 2,000 people in 2004. This represents a net loss of 58 jobs during the 12 months. The end of year statement shows that 106 jobs were created by companies supported by Shannon Development in north kerry during 2004. However, 164 were lost, wiping out the gains made. More encouragingly, 3 companies set up at Kerry Technology park during 2004 bringing to 160 the number of people working there. Over 700 thousand euro in european funding was also secured for the tintean theatre in Ballybunion which is due for completion in the spring. Last year also signalled the end of shannon development’s remit for tourism in north kerry which is now part of Cork Kerry tourism. But spokesman Frank Larkin says the company is committed as ever to promoting north Kerry`s economic development.
