Musical honours for Tralee at AIMS awards

The Association of Irish Musical Societies – or AIMS – hosted its annual awards ceremony last night at the INEC Killarney. Over 1,200 members attended the awards ceremonies which what proved to be a good night for Kerry. John Hurley from Tralee Musical Society won the Spirit of AIMS award for his outstanding projections used in the Irish premiere of Ghost which was staged in the INEC. Aims Tralee was also among the five societies in for Best Overall Show; they came in as runners-up and also in the three other categories in which they were nominated. Aisling O’Carol won Best Singer for Light Opera Society, Tralee. The big winners on the night were Limerick Musical Society in the Sullivan section who scooped four awards. In the Gilbert section there was tremendous excitement and support for Trim Musical Society who took the best visual, best director and best overall show for their production of The Addams Family. The next big event for AIMS is their 50th anniversary concert ENCORE! in the Bord Gáis Energy theatre on October 25th.
