Mumps cases in Kerry more than double over past year

The number of cases of mumps in Kerry has more than doubled over the past year.

According to Cork Kerry Community Healthcare, there have been 15 cases in Kerry so far this year.

This represents an increase of nine over the entirety of 2018, when six cases were notified to the HSE.

Nationally, there were almost 1,800 cases of mumps recorded so far this year, with the greatest number in Dublin.

The HSE says most cases are in teenagers and young adults.
