Green jersey wearer Sam Bennett will take a commanding 68 point lead in the longest stage of this year's Tour de France.

The 222 kilometre trek from Chauvigny to Sarran features an intermediate sprint a quarter of the way in.

Bennett's nearest challenger for the green jersey Peter Sagan was bumped down to last place on yesterday's stage for an infringement on Wout van Aert.

The yellow jersey of Primoz Roglic could come under threat today.

He holds a 21-second lead over Egan Bernal.

SOCCER

Newcastle United say they're considering legal action after admitting a takeover bid failed the Premier League's Owner's and Director's Test.

In late July, a 330 million euro bid led by the Saudi Public Investment Fund was withdrawn 17 weeks after it was accepted.

Newcastle claim the bid has no connection to the Saudi government, and that the Premier League acted inappropriately.

Thiago appears to be finally edging towards a long-mooted move to Liverpool.

Bild in Germany say the 29-year old has already agreed terms with the Premier League champions.

All that remains to be sorted is the fee, with Bayern Munich seeking 30-million euro.
