Junior Club Football Championship
Kilgarvan 3-15 Ballylongford 2-16. AET
There was a strong wind blowing when Kilgarvan took to the pitch to play Ballylongford in the Preliminary round of the Junior Championship on Sunday in Kilgarvan.
Lining out without the injured John Mark Foley Kilgarvan were first on the scoreboard with points from Patrick O’Shea and Christopher Creedon. A great goal by Kieran O’Sullivan Down put Kilgarvan 1-2 up with 10 minutes gone. Further points from Patrick O’Shea and Michael O’Sullivan Down put Kilgarvan 1-4 up before Ballylongford pointed a free. Kilgarvan’s Gearoid Fennessy was playing outstanding at midfield. Then Kilgarvan’s Christopher Creedon scored a super goal to make it Kilgarvan 2-10 to Ballylongford 0-3 at half time.
It was definitely a game of two halves as in the second half Ballylongford scored 10 points without a reply from Kilgarvan. Then just in the last minute Ballylongford got a goal to level the game and put it into extra time.
In the first half of extra time Ballylongford Kieran O’Connor and Kilgarvan’s Sean Godfrey swopped points before Ballylongford’s Kieran O’Connor scored a goal. Patrick O’Shea pointing two frees to make it Kilgarvan 2-13 to Ballylongford 2-15 at half time in extra time.
Kieran O’Sullivan Down scored a point and again Ballylongford replied with a point. Kilgarvan’s Timmy Healy’s shot on goal just went wide as the clock was ticking down. Ballylongford’s Kieran O’Connor got a black card and Patrick O’Shea pointed the resulting free to make it
2-15 to 2-16. Another Patrick O’Shea free dropped beautifully into the box to find the waiting Keith Harrington who found the back of the net to the delight of the Kilgarvan crowd. The final score Kilgarvan 3-15 Ballylongford 2-16.

Churchill easily defeated Ballyduff in this Rd 4 game played at Ballyduff on Sunday. Churchill had five points on Board before Ballyduff registered their first score and went on to lead 10 points to 4 points at halftime; O’Brien (5) Parker (3) Fitzgerald (1), McCarty (1). J P Leahy (3) Goulding 1 point replied for Ballyduff.
Churchill were wind assisted in the second half but Ballyduff defended stoutly Churchill had a man sent off but the game ended as a contest when wing back J Prior netted for Churchill Ballyduff had a man sent off late on but Churchill ran out winners on the score 1_14 0_6.
