The Minister for Transport is reminding Kerry drivers they can go outside the county to sit their driving tests.
Minister Shane Ross was responding to a query from councillors of the South and West Municipal District, who had raised the issue of driving test waiting times for drivers in the county.
Minister Shane Ross says he’s very aware of the current waiting times for driving tests across the country.
He says the Road Safety Authority hopes to reduce the waiting time at all test centres to 10 weeks; currently, the waiting time in Tralee is 13.5 weeks and Killarney is 15 weeks.
The minister says he’s approved the recruitment of additional RSA testers, with plans to add more in the coming weeks.
He admits there’s been an increase in the number seeking driving tests due to changes in legislation in relation to unaccompanied leaner drivers-the minister was the driving force behind these changes.
In his response, the minister reminded the council that Kerry drivers can apply to sit the driving test at any centre around the country.
