Minister Seamus Brennen intends to privatize 25% of national bus routes

The future of rural bus routes in the county is to be safeguarded by the Department Of Transport despite plans to privatize certain routes. Minister Seamus Brennan intends privatizing around a quarter of national routes, however he says subsidies will be maintained for some rural services.Under the package being prepared certain lucrative routes will be offered for tender combined with less profitable routes. The department claims this should avoid cherry picking of the financially sound runs. Negotiations will have to take place with unions before privatization can begin.
