Minister O Donoghue commits to finding replacement for Sara Lee

Minister John O Donohue has given a commitment that the state agencies will actively seek a replacement industry for Sara Lee in Killarney. The company announced yesterday its to close in the next month with the loss of 92 jobs. The company claims there is significant over capacity in the market at the moment. Minister O Donohue says they were finding it difficult to make money.It is now up to the IDA and the Government to find a new industry for Killarney, and to concentrate on providing employment in the South West region according to Deputy Breda Moynihan Cronin. Reacting to the impending closure of Sara Lee, Deputy Moynihan Cronin asks what is the future of the viable plant. She says it’s an excellent and valuable location for new industry, and one that needs to be marketed immediately.
