Minister involved in two car colission in Killarney

The Minister for Gaeltacht Affairs Eamon O Cuiv has been in a traffic accident on the Muckross Road, outside Killarney. The car carrying The Minister was involved in a collision with another vehicle at around twenty to three this afternoon. The Minister, his driver and secretary along with the 4 occupants of the other vehicle have been taken to Kerry General Hospital. Eyewitnesses at the scene say the Minister’s car, a black Volvo, has been burned out. Also at the scene are 3 fire brigade units from Killorglin and Killarney as well as 3 ambulances and a considerable garda presence. Emergency services had been using cutting equipment to remove the two people trapped in the other car. The Department for Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs says Minister O Cuiv has broken his finger but is otherwise fine. The Minister’s driver has also escaped serious injury but it’s understood his secretary has been injured. The driver and passenger in the other vehicle are American tourists, believed to be from Missouri. It’s not known how serious their injuries are. The Southern Health Board says the injuries of those involved in the accident are still being assessed.
