Minister grants one week reprieve to Tralee Town Council

Cllr Risteard Pierse has appealed to his colleagues on Tralee Town Council to support the budget. Councilors failed to agree on the provision of services for 2004 within the specified time. Minister for the Environment Martin Cullen yesterday granted them a one week reprieve after holding discussions with Town Clerk John Breen. Members will meet on Monday week to try and reach agreement. If they cannot pass their budget the Minister will have no option but to disband the council and appoint a Town Commissioner. Cllr Risteard Pierce was the sole member to vote in favour of the budget. However Cllr Cathal Foley feels that dissolution of the Town Council will happen. He feels that Councilors cannot support the budget.
