The Minister with responsibility for disability services has reiterated his commitment to move people from congregated residential care settings into the community.
However, Minister Finian McGrath said he acknowledged the fears of parents, who are concerned about the future of St Mary of the Angels in Beaufort amid reports of moves to close the centre.
He was speaking following a visit to the Beaufort facility this week, where he met with some of the 76 residents, staff and parents.
Mr McGrath gave a guarantee that no resident of the Beaufort facility would be moved without their consent and the consent of their families.
Addressing the specific concerns of parents regarding respite, he said he was committed to rebuilding services that had been damaged.
