Minister attends meeting called by County Development Bord

14 tourism organisations working in the county have unanimously endorsed a proposal to unify Kerry for marketing purposes. The meeting which was called by the County Development Bord was attended by the Minister for Tourism John O Donohue. Those at the meeting expressed the view that in the long term the county should have its own marketing body but that in the interim Cork Kerry tourism should take over the remit. At the moment Shannon Development markets North Kerry and Fáilte Ireland South Kerry.Last November Radio Kerry News reported that moves were afoot to have the county marketed under one entity. In April of this year the development bord conveyed this view to the Minister for Tourism. The next step is to set up a consultative forum with tourism interests in North Kerry. The County Development Bord is also to prepare a report for the new county council. It will be presented to the members for consideration in June.
