MEP Kelly urges Enda Kenny to stay on as Taoiseach until autumn

Kerry MEP Seán Kelly has urged Enda Kenny to stay on as Taoiseach until autumn.

The Kilcummin Fine Gael politician says when Enda Kenny resigns, he should continue leading the country until autumn to allow his successor enough time to prepare for the role.

MEP Kelly says he’s spoken to Enda Kenny and urged him to consider staying in office of Taoiseach in the interests of a smooth transition.

He cited the United States, where a President-elect doesn’t take office for a number of months.
