MEP Kelly says Ireland lagging behind in terms of renewable energy

An Ireland-South MEP says Ireland is lagging behind other European countries of comparable size when it comes to changing from fossil fuels to electric vehicles.

Sean Kelly is the European Parliament’s rapporteur on the Renewable Energy Directive.

The MEP adds that 25% of all carbon emissions come from transport, and to achieve decarbonisation of this sector by 2050 is a huge task.

He says even countries with significant oil reserves, such as Norway, are still leading the way by providing incentives to drivers and fleet owners.
