A Kerry MEP is calling for a European fund to be established to help regions most impacted by policy changes related to greenhouse gases.
Sean Kelly wants EU leaders to approve a €5 billion fund under the Multiannual Financial Framework.
The Ireland South MEP says climate change is very much a priority, which he strongly welcomes.
However, he says it is important that no citizen or worker is left behind and there is a just transition for everyone.
Mr Kelly said the switch away from conventional energy sources comes with costs, and this includes major changes to lives of those working in certain sectors.
