McIlroy Ruptures Ankle Ligaments

Rory McIlroy looks likely to miss out on defending his Open Championship after rupturing ligaments in his left ankle. The world number one also suffered joint capsule damage after hurting himself playing football with some friends. The 26-year-old hasn’t yet ruled himself out of the Open, which begins at St. Andrew’s on Thursday week, but he has withdrawn from this week’s Scottish Open near Edinburgh and medical opinion suggests that he will require up to 12 weeks to recover from the injury.
