Tralee Rotary Club has been left with an unexpected dilemma, after a charity collection at the weekend surpassed all expectations.
The club had asked the public to drop any old or unused bicycles to Tralee Rugby Club on Saturday, with a view to revamping them and sending them to Africa, where they’re needed to get children to school.
Similar collections in other towns around the country yielded an average of a hundred bikes.
However, more than 400 bicycles were donated in Tralee on Saturday.
Grace O’Donnell from Tralee Rotary Club, says they were taken aback by the response – but now face the dilemma of how to transport the bikes to Cavan, where they’ll be revamped and then shipped to Africa.
