Marine biologist Maude Delap to be celebrated in Valentia this weekend

Marine biologist Maude Delap will be celebrated at the Valentia Chamber Music Festival this Saturday.

Ms Delap was a self-taught marine biologist and received international acclaim for her work which included the life cycle of jellyfish.

She was the first person to successfully breed jellyfish in captivity in her homemade laboratory.

A series of photographs by Brian Stone will be exhibited in Valentia Lighthouse to commemorate Delap’s life.

Maude Delap moved to Valentia with her family as a child and she died in 1953.
