Man found guilty of assault is found suitabe for community service

Forty year old Thomas Hallisey who pleaded guilty to assaulting Judge Brian Curtin last month has been found suitable to carry out community service work instead of a custodial sentence. A probation service report presented to Judge James O Connor found that the 40 year old was a suitable candidate to carry out 120 hours community service for hitting judge Curtin three times on the face on March 21st 2003.Thomas Hallisey has a number of previous convictions including assault, domestic violence, criminal damage and larceny. The assault occurred prior to the trial of Judge Curtin on a charge of possessing child pornography on which he was later acquitted at Tralee Circuit Court.
