Man enters signed guilty plea to 11 counts of theft and criminal damage

A man has been sent forward to the Circuit Court on a signed guilty plea on 11 counts of theft and criminal damage. It is the first time in Kerry an accused has gone forward for trial from the District Court on a signed guilty plea. Tralee Courthouse3 33 year old Michael Coffey with an address of 32 Cnoc Gorm, Tralee was charged with 11 counts of burglary and criminal damage in Lixnaw, Finuge, Knocknagoshel, Lyreacrompane and Ballybunion. The incidents took place between late 2013 and the middle of this year. Among the items taken were copper wiring and piping, a consaw, spanners and screwdrivers. Solicitor Padraig O’Connell said his client had indicated a guilty plea early and hoped Mr Coffey would get the benefit of alleviating the state of the burden of expense of a trial. Judge James O’Connor remanded Mr Coffey in custody and sent him forward for trial to the next sittings of the Circuit Criminal Court.
