Man dies following fall on Carrauntoohil

A man has lost his life on Carrauntoohil.

Kerry Mountain Rescue is currently co-ordinating the recovery of the man’s body, following an incident shortly after midday today.

The man, who was in his fifties, appears to have fallen on the mountain sometime after midday today.

Kerry Mountain Rescue attended the scene, and requested the assistance of Valentia Coast Guard with Flight 115 departing from Shannon.

However, due to the precarious position of the deceased man, the Coast Guard helicopter was unable to assist.

They did help ferry some members of the Kerry Mountain Rescue team prior to returning to base.

Killarney Gardaí have been notified and are investigating.
