SOCCER
West Ham manager David Moyes and players Josh Cullen and Issa Diop tested positive for COVID 19 ahead of the Carabao Cup game against Hull City.

The trio had to leave the London Stadium before the match, which the Hammers won 5-1 Republic of Ireland international Darren Randolph started in goal for West Ham.

Assistant manager Alan Irvine guided the team to a 5-1 win in Mayes' absence and he says the situation is in hand.

Elsewhere in the third round last night, Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood came off the bench to score late goals in Manchester United's 3-nil win away to Luton Town.

Juan Mata opened the scoring in the first half from the penalty spot and Dean Henderson played in goal.

In the other matches last night, former Shamrock Rovers and Sligo Rovers striker Padraig Amond scored for League Two Newport County, who beat Watford 3-1.

And Brentford defeated West Brom on penalties.

Tonight, there's an all-Premier League third round tie, with Leicester City hosting Arsenal.

Chelsea entertain Barnsley,

Nairo Quintana says he has "nothing to hide" and has denied any wrongdoing after his hotel room was raided by authorities during the Tour de France.

The former Vuelta and Giro d'Italia winner insists that substances which were seized are “perfectly legal” vitamin supplements.

The Colombian added that he'll answer questions from the police “with a clear conscience”.

Former European Ryder Cup winning captain Paul McGinley says Rory McIlroy needs to deal with the pressure of winning a major.

The County Down star has not won one of the big four tournaments since 2014, his latest disappointment coming at the US Open.

McGinley says McIlroy has to find a way.

 

RUGBY
Former Wales assistant coach Rob Howley has resurfaced in the game with Canada.

He's been named an assistant coach with their national team.

Howley was banned from the game for 18 months last year, with 9 months suspended, for breaching betting rules.

Jockey Paul Townend will ride Cabaret Queen for his boss Willie Mullins in today’s (Wednesday’s) Guinness Kerry National. As always, Townend had a choice of rides in the big race and he told Dave Keena it’s always tough to make these decisions but he's happy that his mount will give a good account of herself in one of the most competitive handicap chases of the season….
