Low number of social workers in Kerry/Cork region.

The Kerry/Cork region has only 200 full-time social workers despite being the country`s largest health board. The majority of social workers are employed in community services with just 12 employed in mental health services and 14 in acute services according to a new report. Previous reports highlighted the need for more support for immigrants and mental health patients. Pat Healy Programme Manager has reassured members that the board would continue to expand social work services in line with government policy initiatives and as resources became available. The report was conducted in response to a request by Cllr John Kelleher.
