Long-term options are still being sought to replace the Valentia Island Ferry.

Kerry County Council revealed the information, following a query from Councillor Johnny Healy-Rae at a recent South and West Municipal District meeting.

Valentia Island Ferries is a private company, which offers a ferry service from Renard Point to Knightstown, Valentia Island.

Kerry County Council says the continuance of the service is vital for tourism in the area, and it has lobbied various government departments seeking support for the ferry.

It adds recent repair work has ensured the short-term future of the vessel and long-term options are being sought.
