Local radio stations may be set to pay lower levies for their regulation.
Minister for Communications Denis Naughten is due to bring proposals to Cabinet in the next few weeks, which will cut the amount of money paid by the industry for operating the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland.
The Minister says he wants to reduce the burden on broadcasters, who are feeling financial pressure as a result of lower advertising revenues.
Kerry Independent TD Danny Healy-Rae is welcoming the news.
BAI Chief Executive Michael O’Keefe says the measures and their new strategy will help stations who are struggling financially.
