A local group has been set up to fight to save the Post Office in Ballinskelligs.
Over 200 people attended a public meeting last night, organised to save the service which is due to close in January.
The closure comes as part of An Post’s rationalisation plan which will see the 12 Kerry Post Offices close their doors.
Dessie Cronin, development officer with Coiste na Forbatha, who organised the meeting, says the community are fighting to keep their Post Office open, and he says they have a plan.
If the Ballinskelligs service closes the nearest Post Office will then be located in Waterville which is 12.7km away.
Every household in the area was represented at the meeting, showing the concern of such a closure in the community, according to organisers.
Mr Cronin says he believes the decision to close such services could bring down the current government.
