The association which represents the county`s 27 County Councillors is backing a move that would see them receive pensions for their work at the expense of the tax payer. The Local Authority Members Association says it has backing from Councillors from all of the main political parties. The move would put them on par with T.D.s and Senators, its envisaged that Councillor`s would receive 7,000 euro per year, having served an initial term of five years. Galway based councillor jarlath McDonagh says the request is justified, with many Councillors putting in more hours than Senators and Backbenchers.
