Lobby group wants council to recieve more money to ensure waste collection service

A lobby group in Tralee says Kerry County Council should ask the government for more money to make the waste collection service more economical to its customers. The County Council is set to lose one million euro in the provision of refuse services this year because its customer base has dropped.Catherine Dolan of the Concerned Household Group says the local authority should demand more money from the government to help it compete with private operators. But John McGurk of the Freedom Institute Think Tank says such a move would probably be challenged in the Supreme Court. He says the government cannot use tax-payers money to undercut a private operator.
