Don’t Touch It took the honours in the featured Southampton Goodwill Plate Steeplechase at Listowel.
Jockey Mark Walsh on the Jessica Harrington trained charge arrived late to collar Listen Dear in the closing stages to win by a head.
Jerry Hannon describes the closing stages
Walsh has ridden Don’t Touch It prominently in the past but knew he had to leave his challenge as late as possible if he was to win today
Joseph and Donnacha O’Brien were in good form at Listowel, teaming up to complete a double courtesy of Rattling Jewel and Baby Pink.
Rattling Jewel did it well from the front to take the Guinness Handicap while Baby Pink made it an afternoon to remember when coming from the rear to win the John and Terry Moriarty Memorial Handicap in good fashion.
Rattling Jewel is owned by John O’Mahony while Baby Pink carried the famous Derek Smith colours that Joseph once carried aboard great horses like St Nicholas Abbey, Leading Light and Camelot.
The long drive from the Curragh down to Kerry proved fruitful for Willie McCreery as he took the opening Foran Equine Irish EBF Auction Fillies Maiden at Listowel with Social Graces today.
Wayne Lordan dictated things from start to finish and had an easy enough time aboard the winner, who is owned by McCreery’s wife Amanda.
Fethard trainer Joe Murphy has endured a difficult year with a bug in his yard but signs are of a revival were evident at Laytown last week and at Listowel today, where he sent out Vitudurum to win the Bank Of Ireland Maiden.
Vitudurum did his best work late on under Garry Carroll and was returned a 33-1 shot.
