A Listowel councillor will seek an apology for the McCarthy family who were at the centre of the In Shame, Love, In Shame documentary.
The RTÉ Doc on One documentary by Conor Keane tells the tragic story of Peggy McCarthy an unmarried mother who was turned away from two Kerry hospitals while in labour in 1946.
Ms McCarthy was refused entry to both Listowel and Tralee hospitals as unmarried mothers were not allowed into their wards at the time.
She gave birth to a daughter Breda who was born with an intellectual disability and was placed in a Magdalene laundry as a teenager.
She still remains in care today.
Leas Cathaoirleach of Listowel Municipal District, Mike Kennelly will highlight the story with a view to getting an apology for Breda and her family at the Kerry County Council October meeting.
