The legendary Sliabh Luachra musician Johnny O Leary has died aged 81.Mr O Leary had been ill for the last 18 months. He is best known as an accordion player but locally is a renowned raconteur and personality.Born in Gneeveguilla in June 1923 Johnny O`Leary was a pupil of padraig O`Keefe. He spent 30 years playing with Denis Murphy and has been widely recorded.In 1994 a book of his tunes was published and more recently he has received the gradam award from TG Ceathair. Mr Leary played music up until a year ago. He is survived by his wife Lil, his son Sean and his two daughters Helen and Maureen.
