Last year saw a major increase in drug consumption in Kerry.
That’s according to today’s Irish Times which reveals the results of a four-year report involving drug crime in regional towns.
The most significant figure of controlled drug offences was recorded in Tralee which saw an 80% increase at the end of 2018 in comparison with the same period in 2015.
The number of drug crimes recorded in Killarney in 2018 increased to 197 from 124 in 2015.
Nationally, the figure of 10,900 drug offences committed last year is 20% higher than the year previous.
Gardaí believe higher disposable incomes among recreational drug users is the main reason for the increase.
