Tomorrow will be the last day court will sit in Killorglin, before the courthouse closes temporarily.

Professional inspections have revealed that immediate health and safety issues exist.

The Courts Service says significant investment is needed in the building, which is in very poor condition.

Immediate works which need to be carried out include a full rewiring of the building, the installation of emergency lighting and fire alarms, and repairs to the raised floor area in the courtroom.

Sittings will be moved to Caherciveen on the second Thursday of the month.

Councillor Michael Cahill has called on the Minister for Justice and the Courts Service to relocate  to the County Council Offices at Library Place.

He says this location has a readily available courtroom and offices.
