A Killorglin student has picked up a national STEM award.

Timothy McGrath, a student in Killorglin Community College, claimed the top award at the SciFest4STEM ceremony in Dublin today.

He won the award for his project into using plants to combat oceanic dead zones, which are caused by pollution in the ocean.

As part of the prize, he’ll now spend a week in California next year as part of the global competition.

The 17-year-old says he is delighted to claim the national title.
