Killorglin man who was paid €100 to transport over €11,000 worth of crystal meth receives suspended sentence

A Killorglin man who was paid €100 to transport over €11,000 worth of crystal meth has received a suspended sentence.

23-year-old Daryl O’Connor of Springfield House, Rangue, Killorglin, had pleaded guilty to possession of crystal meth for sale or supply at AGS motors, Scart Cross, Farranfore on the 25th October 2016.

Tralee Circuit Court heard that gardaí carried out a search of Mr O’Connor’s car in October of 2016.

They found over €11,600 worth of methamphetamine-or more commonly known as crystal meth-in four packs.

The court heard the accused was transporting the drugs for a cash reward of €100, and gardaí believe Mr O’Connor was only acting as a delivery man.

In mitigation, it was said the offence appeared out of character for Mr O’Connor.

Judge Tom O’Donnell handed down a two-year sentence, fully suspended, providing Mr O’Connor be of good behaviour and keep the peace for a period of two years.
