Killarney writer is awarded 2,500 euro

A Killarney writer is two-and-a-half thousand euros better off after taking a discrimination case against Aosdana. Sean Clifford had applied for membership to the artists’ group and discovered the age of eligibility was 30. Mr Clifford was 26 at the time and took a case to the equality tribunal. Aosdana did remove the lower age limit before the complaint was heard by the tribunal, but insisted it didn’t mean that the Employment Equality Act applied to the organisation. Niall Crowley, Chief Executive of the Equality Authority, says it’s an important decision.
