Killarney man who was jailed for contempt of court in connection with home repossession released

A Kerry man who was jailed for contempt of court in connection with a home repossession has been released.

Killarney man Brian McCarthy was jailed in January, following his support of a Clare man who’d refused to vacate a property, which was the subject of a court repossession order granted to Bank of Ireland.

He had told the court judge he had no jurisdiction to hear the case as he’d not produced his declaration and that the hearing was about protecting banks.

Mr McCarthy was released from Limerick Prison yesterday evening, after being held for 57 days.
