Killarney man is charged with murder of Michael Faulkner

23 year old Michael McCarthy with an address at 121 Ballyspillane Killarney has been charged with the murder of Michael Faulkner following a sitting of Tralee District Court today. A previous section three charge of assault causing harm was withdrawn by Inspector Barry O Rourke. Michael McCarthy was charged with the murder of Michael Faulkner this morning at Ashe Street in Tralee.When charged with the offence by Sergeant Brennan he had nothing to say.The 43 year old victim was a member of the Settled Traveller Community and was stabbed on August 23rd during the Rose Of Tralee Festival. The incident took place within 100 yards of his home at Mitchels Crescent. He was pronounced dead at Kerry General Hospital a short time later. Michael McCarthy had been out on bail awaiting trial on the section three charge which today was upgraded to a full murder charge. He has been remanded to Cork Prison and will appear before Tralee District Court again on April 13th.
