Killarney man accused of assault using chimney sweeping pole is sent forward for trial

A Killarney man has been sent forward for trial accused of assault using a chimney sweeping pole.

A second man charged in connection with the incident is due back in court next month.

41-year-old Michael O’Brien of 2 Hazelwood Drive, Ballyspillane and 33-year-old Daniel O’Brien of 22 Hazelwood Drive, Ballyspillane are facing a number of offences, including assault, possession of an article and violent disorder.

The alleged offences arose as part of an ongoing dispute between families.

Michael and Daniel O’Brien are facing three charges, including violent disorder, the production of an article – namely a chimney sweeping pole with brass connectors, and assault, arising from an alleged incident in Ballyspillane on September 2nd 2018.

Michael O’Brien is also facing an additional assault charge, arising from the same incident; he was before Killarney District Court Tuesday.

Judge David Waters sent him forward for trial to the next sitting of Tralee Circuit Court on continuing bail.

Daniel O’Brien’s case was adjourned to the November 5th sitting of Killarney District Court for service of the book of evidence.
