Killarney Chamber of Tourism and Commerce says it's disappointed and upset by the behaviour of people who it says blatantly ignored social distancing requirements

Killarney Chamber of Tourism and Commerce says it's disappointed and upset by the behaviour of people who it says blatantly ignored social distancing requirements in the town.

President of the group, Paul Sherry says the majority of people and businesses in Killarney have adhered to public health guidelines and restrictions during the pandemic.

He says it's disappointing that some people see fit to act irresponsibly with no respect for others.

Killarney Chamber of Tourism and Commerce is pleading with people to act responsibly and to implement all guidelines recommended by authorities, including social distancing.

An Garda Síochána says it’s aware of the video showing large crowds gathered in Killarney.

The Garda Press Office says members were on patrol in Killarney, with local Gardaí reporting large numbers socialising over the evening.

In a statement, it says Gardaí were also involved in an ongoing investigation regarding a fatal road traffic collision in South Kerry and responded to a number of further incidents including the unexplained death of a man on the Muckross Road.

Gardaí are reminding people of their personal responsibility, to comply with Public Health Guidelines and Regulations in order to continue to save lives during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Vintners’ Federation of Ireland (VFI) says any pub found to be in breach of COVID-19 guidelines, should face the full force of the law.
