Kerryman convicted of manslaughter has sentence reduced

A 30 year old Kerryman convicted of the manslaughter of his uncle on the family farm in 1996 has had his sentence reduced from 10 years 11 months to 6 years at the court of criminal appeal. Eugene Daly with an address at Dooneen Kilcummin Killarney told Gardai that he threw his uncle’s body down a 22 ft well following the attack in January of 1996. The court heard that Mr Dalys father Sean who is now deceased was also involved in the killing. The accused uncle, Paddy Daly was attacked with an iron bar before his body was thrown down the well. Today lawyers for Mr Daly successfully argued that the sentence handed down at the central criminal court was unduly harsh and the court reduced it to one of six years.
