Kerry Vintners to seek legal advice in relation to shorter opening hours

A Tralee Town Cllr is calling for publicans and night club owners to give the new licensing restrictions a chance. Yesterday, Judge James O Connor ruled that late opening hours would be curbed by half an hour and all premises must now stop serving at 2am. Labour Cllr Miriam McGillycuddy along with Cllr Tommy Foley recommended back in January that shorter pub opening hours would curb late night violence, anti-social behaviour and unprovoked attacks. But Miriam McGillycuddy says if this measure fails to work than alternatives may be looked at , such as 24 hour opening. Pro of the Kerry Vintners, Danny Leane, says the cut back in opening hours will not reduce violence on the streets. They are seeking legal advice on yesterdays ruling. Meanwhile, Manager of The Pulse Nightclub, Richie O Connell, says the shorter opening hours, which have been in operation in Caherciveen since last April, have made no difference to anti-social behaviour patterns in the town.
